You Can’t Fire Volunteers

Donald Trump says, "You're fired!"

Motivating people within an organization is frequently a challenge. Getting people to support a new idea in a volunteer organization is it’s own special challenge.

You can’t fire volunteers.

So how do you motivate and gain the support of individuals in a volunteer organization?

You talk to them.
You listen. You learn about them. Their families. Their job. Their interests.
You figure out what motivates them.

You give them more of what motivates them.

Here’s the challenge.

Talking to them takes time.
Listening takes patience.
Learning takes effort.
Hearing takes good listening skills.
Understanding takes empathy.

All of this takes Gumption.

Getting the support of individuals in a volunteer organization takes extra effort. Extra effort on your part.

You can’t fire volunteers.
