Spread the love

- I did not watch the opening ceremonies. I heard it was low budget in comparison to London and Beijing.
I loved the interview with 19-year old Ginny Thrasher who won the first gold of the Rio Olympics. She talked about flying home to attend her sophomore year of college in West Virginia next week. A normal person. She felt pure joy at winning an Olympic medal.
- Rio is a beautiful city with the mountains and the beaches. I visited Rio in 2001.
- They say it’s the first time a 3rd world country has hosted the Olympics. I hope all goes well for Rio and Brazil.
- The Brazilian people smile a lot. They are well tanned.
- I like the shades of green that is the color scheme throughout the venues.
- An American woman cyclist loses the Gold medal by 250 yards after leading the Road Race for the last 6 miles. She doesn’t even medal. The Dutch cyclist crashed out after leading and being a certain Gold medalist. So close and yet they both came up empty.
- I like swimming, archery, gymnastics, diving, kayaking … I only watch these sports during the Olympics. Again, the people competing look like normal folks.
- I’m not so interested in volleyball, basketball, golf or other sports that have predominately professionals competing.
- Soccer is in the middle. I like it but who has time to watch soccer matches?
- In the era of cable TV, I can flip to the 2nd and 3rd sports channels to see what other events are being covered.
- The human stories can be good – let’s hope NBC keeps them to a minimum.
