In the movie Forrest Gump, Forrest was sitting quietly in his thoughts on his front porch. He was gloomy over the fact that Jenny had left him. What had previously been the happiest time of his life was now just a raw memory.
What Forrest did next is what we often need to do when we find ourselves stuck, uncertain, a little bit blue, or lacking direction.
Forrest carefully put his hat onto his head. He then placed his hands on the chair rails and slowly pushed himself into the standing position. Once he was standing, he stepped forward – first with his left foot, then with his right. He descended the porch steps and started across the lawn. His run began as a slow jog, but quickly picked up speed. By the time Forrest reached the end of the driveway, he was flat-out running.
If we just stand up and take the first step, the next steps will frequently appear like magic.
When we can just get started, we can figure out our exact path along the way.
Once we have a little momentum, it’s a lot easier to just keep going.
Are you stuck?
Are you afraid to take the first step?
Do you see the value in simply getting started?
