Here is my big plan for 2013 through Spring of 2016 …
I will speak to all 148,500 students in Montana’s 967 public and private schools (K-12) over a three-year-plus time period. My plan is to pilot the program this spring and then roll it out over the next three school years, ending in the spring of 2016.
The message I will deliver to the youth of Montana is Gumption. I equate Gumption with personal responsibility. I want every single child in Montana growing up believing that they can create their own gump-like life. They will also learn that they can create their own results, and that they are personally responsible for creating those results.
I believe our current education system does an okay job of teaching the fundamentals (reading, writing, arithmetic). However, it misses the opportunity to teach students the who, what, where, when, why, and how. Why am I learning this? Where can this take me? Who can I become? What is my destiny? When do I get to decide? In addition, how is this all relevant?
My job is to encourage the Montanan youth to take control of the five Ws and one H.
I want them to understand that they (and they alone) get to decide who and what they become.
I want them to take personal responsibility for the how and why.
I want them to live with Gumption now and forever.
I want them understand that they can (and must) create their own results to take them wherever they choose to go.
I want the youth of Montana to both create and live their own gump-like lives.
So, how am I going to do this?
