The movie Forrest Gump touched, moved, and inspired people 20+ years ago. The life lessons from the movie are just as relevant today as they were back in 1994. They give the movie it’s timeless nature.
This series is dedicated to listing the many life lessons from the movie that we can incorporate into our daily lives to feel more peace and love … and to live our lives with Gumption.
Integrity
“A promise is a promise.”

Those words were spoken by Forrest to Lt. Dan.
It was New Years Eve in New York City. Forrest was explaining the commitment he had made to Bubba. Forrest promised Bubba that they’d go into the shrimpin’ business together. But since Bubba was dead, Forrest had to buy his own shrimp boat.
Lt. Dan thought Forrest was crazy.
Later, when Lt. Dan showed up on the dock in Bayou La Batre, Forrest was so excited he jumps off the boat and swims to greet his wayward friend. Forrest asks Lt. Dan, “What are you doing here?”
“I’m a man of my word.”
Back in New York on New Year Eve, Lt. Dan had promised Forrest he’d join him if Forrest was ever a shrimp boat captain.
So Forrest tried to always keep his promises.
And Lt. Dan was a man of his word.
Integrity is all about keeping your promises.
Integrity is all about being a person who keeps their word.
Living your life with Gumption means living with integrity.
Do other people think of you as a person of integrity? … Someone who keeps their word? … Someone who keeps their promises?
