When the country doctor put braces on Forrest Gump’s legs, he explains to Mama Gump, “His legs are strong, Mrs. Gump. As strong as I’ve ever seen. But his back is as crooked as a politician.”
Our beloved country – the United States of America – is strong. But our back is crooked. It needs straightening. We need some type of braces to help straighten things out.
I believe the problems our country faces today are from years and years of politicians screwing things up. Politicians are to blame. Both parties are to blame.
Decisions (the choices they’ve made) have benefited the political class in the short-term while ignoring the needs of the people and country. Too often politicians do what is expedient and beneficial to them individually and their party – while detrimental long-term to the people and our country.
When the country doctor put braces on Forrest Gump’s legs, it was awkward and cumbersome for Forrest. Old men starred. Classmates mocked him. Forrest’s own movement and ability to function was severely hampered. But he survived. And a few years later, he emerged stronger than before.
Our country may be strong. But it’s back is bending. It needs a radical change. It needs some braces – and brakes – on the direction we’re heading.
In the early 1950s, a fictitious country doctor thought all politicians were crooked.
In 2016, I feel that too many politicians are crooked. Both parties are to blame.
