Is your glass haft-empty or half-full?
Last week I walked outside after an evening thundershower a few minutes before 9pm. Ka-zam! There was this rainbow staring me in the face. Not just any rainbow … I hit the rainbow jack prize. The big kahuna of rainbows. The rainbow crème de la crème.
I pulled out my iPhone, changed the setting to ‘Pano’ and took this picture. Then, trying to be clever, I took four more pictures adjusting the lighting, focus, and so forth … by the time I took the last of the followup pictures – the top of the rainbow had disappeared. None of the subsequent photos were as good as the first picture taken.
I posted the picture on Facebook with the label ‘I’m living under a pot of gold’. The Like Button and comments went crazy.
Here’s what I learned.
- Your first attempt often produces the best result. No need to continue to endlessly keep trying to improve.
- Strike when the iron is hot. Opportunities just show up. Take opportunities right away otherwise they’ll disappear.
- Follow your gut. I instinctively named this photo living under a pot of gold. I’m a glass half-full kind of guy.
Are you living under – or sitting on top of – a pot of gold?
