Spread the love

- I don’t know about you … but I’m glad 2012 is over.
- In the big picture of life, some years are more memorable and impactful than others. 2012 was memorable and impactful … but too often times for the wrong reasons.
- The Presidential election ripped the country in two. I’m glad that is over. I think the American people prefer being connected. I don’t think we like being divided. I believe Americans are, in spirit, a united people. Sadly, in politics, we remain divided.
- The economy still has a negative pale … people are working, making money, and living life … but the optimistic feeling we’ve had in the past has refused to return. Macro-economic pessimism remains, while micro-economic realities are mostly OK … at best.
- The Newtown school shooting was a stab-in-the-heart reminder that some things just don’t make any sense. Sick people do sick things. Evil exists.
- Overall, the news from 2012 was confusing and exhausting. Information overload. Too many questions without simple answers. Urgency for issues that take time, reflection, and thoughtful discussion. An absence of statesmen – and an overabundance of partisans.
- But … I remain optimistic. This too shall pass. I refuse to give up.
- For me personally, I believe 2012 will be remembered as the end of the transformation that started in the mid-2000s. The transformation from Forrest Gump, entertainer, to Steve Weber, professional speaker.
- 2012 was the year that my message of Gumption transitioned from words on a page to my message delivered from the heart.
- 2012 was the year that clarity emerged, after the realization of a few years earlier, that I didn’t know the speaking business. I didn’t fully understand what I stood for. And I didn’t have a clear vision of how I was supposed to proceed.
- 2012 was the year that the confusion and clutter of possibly this, or that, or the other … suddenly gave way to a singular focus. Knowing what I’m supposed to be doing became crystal clear. Figuring out how I’ll do it is now becoming obvious. Clarity. Mission. Purpose.
- Here’s the good news about 2012 (and the past four or five years) – I survived. And so did you. It hasn’t always been pretty. I’ve taken my fair share of lumps. I’ve been knocked down a peg or two. I’ve been humbled … but, I survived. I’m now ready to thrive. And so will you.
