When you function with Gumption, you take 100% personal responsibility for your thinking, your getting things done, and your interactions with others. You give up excuses and blame. If we said, “Functioning with Gumption is like a box of chocolates,” we’d have to finish the saying, “you get to choose the exact chocolate that you want.”
Here are 5 steps you can take so that you will not only feel confident in your choice, but so you’ll also be aligning your life to Function with Gumption.
1. Embrace Responsibility
I’m not suggesting you take responsibility. I want you to embrace responsibility.
When you embrace responsibility, you’re putting your arms around it, squeezing tight, and holding on for dear life.
What happens when you embrace a loved one? They squeeze and hold you back. That’s exactly what responsibility should feel like – allow it to get a hold on you, squeeze you, and refuse to let go.
2. Forgo Complaining, Making Excuses, and Applying Blame
When we forgo something, we say,“Forget it … I abstain! I’ll refrain. I’ll just do without!”
Abstain from complaining.
Refrain from making excuses.
- Just do without applying blame.
3. Choose Powerfully
To choose powerfully means you’re choosing with a commitment. There is no uncertainty. There is no looking back.
When you choose powerfully, your choice is aligned with your long-range goals and values.
When you choose powerfully, your choice answers an immediate need.
When you choose powerfully, your choice fulfills your plans for tomorrow.
4. Abduct Action
Just like we didn’t take responsibility, you’re also not going to simply take action. You’re going to abduct action – you’re going to grab it by force and without permission.
The permission part will be forgotten, and we’ll seek forgiveness rather than risk losing momentum while waiting for prior approval.
5. Persist with Positivity
When negativity is raining down all around you, it’s easy to seek shelter and wait for the storm to pass.
The problem with this approach is action stops and excuses begin.
Is it easy to persist with positivity? No.
Is it easy to function with Gumption? No.
Is it absolutely necessary to persist when challenges arise? Yes.
Is it easier to persist while maintaining a positive mindset? Absolutely.
If you want to regularly Function with Gumption, start embracing responsibility, forgo excuse making, choose powerfully, abduct action, and persist with positivity.
Are you willing to function with Gumption?
