Two years ago I was hired by the Montana regional owner of EXIT Realty to speak to the region’s agents, broker-owners, and their families at a summer gathering.

One year ago, another regional owner asked me to speak at their broker-owner conference in Maryland.
During both of these events, I had the opportunity to meet several key people from the corporate leadership team. I heard them speak.
As I met the regional owners, the individual franchise broker-owners, and the corporate leadership – I heard a common theme in the way they spoke and acted.
Everyone was enthusiastic. Everyone was optimistic. Everyone was alive. This struck me as unusual – or at least different.
Too many businesses and people I’ve met over the years have been sleepwalking.
When I joined the National Speakers Association 6+ years ago, I saw and heard the same type of enthusiasm. I felt confident I joined the right organization when I became a member of NSA. I felt like I was at home.
Why was EXIT Realty and NSA different than other companies and organizations that I’ve met and spoken to over the past 10 years?
Why did I think it unusual that they all spoke the language of optimism and enthusiasm?
It is unusual because it’s rare.
It’s also contagious. Both optimism and pessimism are contagious. They spread from person-to-person within an organization. Optimism breeds more optimism. Pessimism breeds more pessimism. I prefer optimism.
Twenty years ago EXIT Realty was started by Steve Morris. Steve is an optimistic and enthusiastic guy. He?s also a smart and innovative business leader. Steve has built an organization that today shares his values of optimism and enthusiasm. It also shares the values of hard word, family, faith, and good health.
People who join EXIT Realty as a local agent at a local office owned by a local broker-owner share a vision of helping people.
They help individual people buy homes. They help individual people sell property. They are all in the people business. Real estate just happens to be the product.
The people who make up the EXIT Realty team from individual agents to corporate leadership all have Gumption.
They take responsibility for the way they think, act, and interact with others.
That is the reason I joined EXIT Realty as a non-licensed associate. I wanted to be part of this organization that shares my vision of enthusiasm, optimism, and serving others. That is the reason that I’ve created EXIT Gumption.
For 15 years I was at home when I worked for Bubba Gump Shrimp. Six-plus years ago I found a new home with NSA.
Today I feel like I’ve come home once more by joining EXIT Realty.
My speaking business, the principles of Gumption, and the life lessons from the movie will still reside here at SpeakingGump.
The special work that I will do for EXIT Realty as an Ambassador, Trainer, and Mentor will reside at EXITGumption.
