The movie Forrest Gump came out in July 1994. Yes … 21 years ago!
So why am I still talking about it? Isn’t it time to move on and do something else?
For the past 20 years I’ve been asked regularly, “What will you do when the movie is no longer remembered?”
My answer: “Maybe Tom Hanks will make another timeless movie and I’ll go from there.”
It is true that movie is now 21 years old … but it’s life lessons are still relevant.
Here is the good news:
- The Life Lessons from the movie are timeless
- They are even more appropriate in today’s crazy world.
- Almost 100% of the people I meet have heard of the movie
- The people who have seen the movie is 85-90%
Where did I get these statistics? I made them up. They are anecdotal. But I believe they are true.
When I give my keynote presentation and refer to the 3 main life lessons I believe are most important, people often say to me, “I’m going to watch the movie with a new perspective.”
Do I continue to talk about the movie because I believe it’s important? Yes.
But more importantly, I do it because it’s my destiny.
