Building Consensus

Steve Weber creates experiences that are memorable and cause change
Do you have the patience to talk to every single person individually? Even if only for a minute?

I encourage leaders to speak individually with the people they want to lead. One-on-one. The best way to build consensus is one person at a time.

It takes time

I don’t like to surprise people in a group setting. I try to build consensus prior to publicly introducing an idea.

It takes effort

I want to know in advance who supports my idea.

I want to know who doesn’t support my idea. And why.

It takes diplomacy

I won’t typically introduce big, new ideas in a group setting. I prefer to plant seeds of new ideas individually.

It takes patience

Do you have the patience and are you willing to make the effort to build consensus one person at a time?

BTW, this idea was conceived while working with all-volunteer groups – but it works in business too.
