The bond started when they were children. And that bond was very evident in this scene when Jenny said goodbye. Forrest gave her his medal of honor. He said, "I got it just by doing what you told me to do." Forrest felt Jenny was part of his receiving the medal of honor - and he shared it with her. Jenny was 'his girl'. Jenny knew it. She said, "I'll always be your girl". It takes gumption to express your care and deep feelings for another person. It takes Gumption to be someone else's special person.
